Healthy Start and Healthy Families Insurance Application

If your child is too young for Medicaid or CHIP coverage, but still eligible for health care through Healthy Start, then they could be covered if their income meets certain requirements. This program covers eligible children up to age 19 and pregnant women for up to 60 days after delivery if the parent's income is low enough.

several options to determine

You have several options to determine if your child is eligible for this coverage: You can contact either your state's family assistance agency or your health plan; alternatively, you may visit an online website that provides details about Healthy Start and other Medicaid or CHIP programs.

apply for Medicaid

In order to apply for Medicaid and/or CHIP benefits, you must fill out an application. This can be done in person, online, or via mail and it may take up to 90 days before you receive an eligibility decision.

When applying for the Healthy Start or Healthy Families program, be prepared to answer questions about your income and family composition. Doing so will enable you to obtain the highest quality healthcare for all members of your household.

family's income and assets

You must provide evidence of your family's income and assets. This could include tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, or other documents. Without these records, it will be much harder for us to assess your eligibility.

If your income and assets are too high to qualify for Medicaid, you might be able to purchase private health insurance through the Marketplace. However, keep in mind that you would likely pay much more than if you had been covered by Medicaid.

Qualified health plans (QHPs), also referred to as Obamacare plans, are available through the Marketplace and cover a wide range of medical services like doctor's visits, hospital stays, emergency care; prescriptions; immunizations; preventive and wellness care; mental health/substance abuse treatment; pediatric dental/vision care; plus much more!

Plans on the Marketplace or through a Marketplace-certified agent or broker can be purchased. Your agent or broker will assist in selecting a plan that meets both your needs and budget.

Your agent or broker can assist you in selecting the appropriate plan for your requirements and guide you through the enrollment process. They also provide explanations of insurance coverage options and how to pay for your new policy.

During the application process, you will be asked who lives in your household and which members of your family are applying for health insurance. In addition, information regarding your immigration status must also be provided.

Does Your Immigrant Status Affect Eligibility for Health Insurance?

Immigrants may face challenges when applying for healthcare coverage, particularly if they aren't eligible to receive Medicaid or CHIP benefits. These challenges can stem from many different reasons; such as immigration status, lack of access to public programs, and language barriers.
